- What is timber treatment?
- Timber treatment is the application of a preservative or remedial system to structural and joinery timber to stop wood-boring insect attack and fungal decay. It follows a survey that identifies whether the attack is active, how far it has spread, and what moisture source is feeding it. Treating the timber without correcting the moisture source rarely gives a lasting result.
- How much does timber treatment cost in Essex, Suffolk or Norfolk?
- Costs depend on the area of timber affected, access, the type of decay and whether repairs or replacement timber are needed. We price each property after a survey rather than quoting a flat rate, so you get a figure based on the actual work. Quotes are provided on application and all works are guaranteed.
- How do I know if woodworm is still active?
- Fresh, light-coloured bore dust, clean-edged exit holes and weakened timber usually indicate an active attack, while darkened holes with no dust often point to historic activity. A survey confirms which it is, so you are not paying to treat timber that no longer needs it.
- What is the difference between wet rot and dry rot?
- Wet rot occurs in timber that stays persistently damp and is generally confined to the wet area. Dry rot can spread through masonry to find new timber and needs a wider programme of works. Both need the moisture source resolved first, then affected timber treated or replaced.
